What is Essential tremor?
Essential tremor, also known as neurological disease, is a neurological condition that causes uncontrollable and uncoordinated movements. It can affect almost any part of the body, but tremors in the hands often occur, especially during simple tasks such as drinking from a glass of water or tying your shoes. The situation is scary but can cause hands to shake. Other conditions do not cause essential tremor, but essential tremor is sometimes confused with Parkinson's disease.
Symptoms
Start slowly, usually more visible on one side of the body
Condition gets worsened during the movement
It usually starts in the hand and affects one or both hands
It may involve "yes-yes" or "no" movements of the head
This can be caused by increased stress, fatigue, caffeine, or excessive heat
Surgery
If your tremors are severe and do not respond to medications, surgery may be an option.
Deep brain stimulation: This is the most common type of surgery for essential tremor. This is often a process of selecting a clinic that has experience performing this procedure. It involves inserting a long, thin electrical probe into the part of the brain that causes tremors, called the thalamus. A wire from the probe is connected to a pacemaker, such as a neurostimulator, placed under the skin in the chest. The device sends harmless electrical signals to interrupt signals from the thalamus that could cause tremors. Problems controlling movement, speech, or balance; Side effects usually disappear over time or after upgrading to the device.
Focused ultrasound thalamotomy: This noninvasive technique involves using low-energy sounds that pass through the skin and skull. The waves heat up, destroying the brain in certain areas of the thalamus and stopping the tremors. Surgeons use magnetic resonance imaging equipment to accurately image the brain and ensure that the sound does not generate the heat needed for the procedure. The surgery affects the side of the body other than the operated side. Some people experience mood swings, difficulty walking, or difficulty moving. However, most problems resolve on their own or are mild enough not to affect quality of life.
Lifestyle and home remedies:
Avoid Caffeine: Caffeine and other stimulants can cause tremors.
Avoid Alcohol: Some people see a slight improvement in symptoms after drinking alcohol, but drinking alcohol is not a good solution. The tremors will get worse as the effects of alcohol wear off. Additionally, alcohol consumption ultimately needs to be increased to reduce tremors that can lead to alcoholism..
Relax your Body: Stress and anxiety often cause tremors. Rest can improve tremors. You can't escape all the stress in your life. But you can use different types of relaxation, such as massage or meditation, to change your response to stressful situations.
Change in Lifestyle: Use your hands less by shaking frequently. Find ways to avoid typing with a distracted hand, such as using online banking and debit cards instead of writing a check.
